Seasonal allergies affect 1 in 25 Canadians, according to the Canadian Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Foundation. Allergic rhinitis, or "hay fever", can present as watery itchy eyes, runny nose with clear mucous, sinus congestion and pressure, itchy tongue and palate, a dry scratchy throat, feeling fatigued, or poor concentration. This means lower productivity at work, an increased risk of asthma and an expensive trip to the pharmacy or health food store trying to find relief.
What Can You Do?
1. Catch the culprit
Most seasonal type allergies are IgE-mediated immune reactions. Common culprits are tree pollens, ragweed, moulds, and dust mites. These can be made worse by certain foods, especially food sensitivities.
2. Support your immune system
Eat a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables for lots of Vitamin C, good quality probiotics, fermented foods, and healthy fats. Minimize sugars, processed foods and alcohol as they will suppress your immune function and can contribute to mucous production.
3. Neutralize the Culprits
When it comes to treating your allergy symptoms, most people turn to an anti-histamine such as Reactine or Aerius. Both of these medications need to be taken daily, most often multiple times a day and are expensive. These medications try to suppress your symptoms after they start. BIE (BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination) works to prevent the symptom to begin with by naturally balancing out the body against the allergic substances.
What Are Your Options?
Here are the Benefits of BIE versus Over the Counter Medications. Which one is right for you?
BIE BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination
Natural Allergy Balance
BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination is a simple, natural approach that enables one's body to recognize sensitivities or intolerances, assisting in recovery from associated allergy-like symptoms, without the use of needles or drugs.
BIE in short gets the body to recognize certain substances it currently does not. When you have allergy symptoms from Environmental substances, your body is simply reacting improperly as these pollens, grasses and trees are not actually harmful to you. Your body mistakenly sees them as negative substances and is responding accordingly. With BIE, we can get your body to recognize grass, trees, pollens for just that, grass, trees and pollens. You will be able to enjoy the outdoors without sneezing, without an itchy nose or itchy eyes. You will not need medication to suppress your symptoms as they will not start to begin with. BIE has long lasting effects and will help prevent the need for over the counter medications. To read more about how BIE works, click here
Over the Counter Medications
When your body comes into contact with whatever your allergy trigger is --pollen, ragweed, pet dander, for example -- it makes chemicals called histamines. They cause the tissue in your nose to swell (making it stuffy), your nose and eyes to run, and your eyes, nose, and sometimes mouth to itch. Sometimes you may also get hives on the skin.
Antihistamines reduce or block histamines, so they are supposed to stop allergy symptoms, not prevent them.
These medicines work well to relieve symptoms of allergies including seasonal, indoor, and food allergies. But they can't relieve every symptom.
Some of the main side effects of antihistamines include:
- Dry mouth
- Nausea and Vomiting
- Restlessness or moodiness (in some children)
- Blurred vision
If you take an antihistamine that causes drowsiness, do so before bed. Antihistamines may interact with other medications you are taking. Check with your Doctor for prolonged use.
